Yesterday, Buck and Cash got their feet wet (figuratively and literally) at a local mountain trail course!
There's a certain thrill that courses through you when you watch a partnership blossom between human and horse. It's more than just horse and rider; it's a shared understanding, a trust built on respect and communication. This feeling was amplified yesterday as I watched our horses tackle a mountain trail obstacle course, their willingness and capability shining brighter than the sun!
From log crossings and rock steps to a water hazard and a narrow bridge, the course demanded both physical prowess and mental fortitude. We started off leading and then transitioned to the riding portion.
Leading the charge was Buck; I initially anticipated needing to encourage and support him with every step. Instead, I was met with focus and determination. He approached each obstacle with a curious eye, carefully analyzing the situation before striding forward without much pushing. He picked his way through the uneven terrain and exciting features with an impressively sure foot.
Cash, who displayed a more cautious and thoughtful approach, followed close behind. He is typically more reserved, preferring to observe before acting. With gentle encouragement and a light hand on the reins, he navigated the terrain and obstacles with pride. The highlight for him was undoubtedly the pond. Initially hesitant, he allowed his curiosity to overcome him, and once he realized the water wasn't a threat, he splashed and made a fool of himself!
