The Mustang Diaries: Pecos June 15-30 Training Update

Pecos has had quite the eventful couple of weeks here in training. Before his recent setback, he enjoyed a wonderful trail ride with his owner. It was a fantastic outing, and it was great to see the partnership they've been building continue to grow outside of the arena.

Unfortunately, shortly after that ride, Pecos developed what appears to be a hoof abscess. Anyone who has dealt with abscesses knows they can be incredibly painful, and this one has certainly been taking its time. Because of his discomfort, Pecos has been resting and relieved of his regular training schedule while we wait for the abscess to work its way to the surface.

Right now, he's struggling to move around comfortably, so our focus has shifted entirely to his care and recovery. We're doing everything we can to keep him as comfortable as possible, monitoring him closely each day, and giving him the time his body needs to heal. While it's never easy to see a horse in pain, abscesses are often a matter of patience, and we're hopeful that once it drains, he'll experience significant relief.

As frustrating as these setbacks can be, they're a reminder that every horse's well-being comes first. Training can always resume once Pecos is feeling like himself again. For now, we're taking things one day at a time and looking forward to getting him back on track when he's ready.

We're wishing Pecos a speedy recovery and can't wait to share happier training updates once he's back to feeling his best.
