The Mustang Diaries: Sunny's First Time in the Training Ring

Yesterday, Sunny entered the training arena for the first time and learned how to free lunge. She is a BIG girl with a broad back and powerful shoulders, hinting at the strength she possesses. While her size can be intimidating, her intelligence is equally striking. She absorbs information quickly, analyzes situations with a keen awareness, and maintains a willingness to learn that makes her a joy to work with.

From the moment I released her into the arena, Sunny seemed to understand the unspoken invitation to explore. She began with a cautious walk, her ears pricked forward, absorbing the sensory information of the open space. Her big body moved with surprising agility, her muscles rippling beneath her coat. What struck me most was her headset. She carries herself with a natural elegance, her neck arched and her head held high, almost alluding to a Morgan-influenced heritage. She appears to be highly athletic and enjoyed the opportunity to stretch her legs and build some speed. She responded well and quickly understood when I asked her to stop and change directions. This can often be a difficult concept for some horses to understand, another indication of her underlying brainpower.

I am confident that Sunny's intelligence, combined with her natural athleticism and willingness to learn, will enable her to excel in any discipline her owner/partner chooses to pursue!
