The Mustang Diaries: Kai-Ju Day 125

Updated: May 13

Kai's mom/owner came down to ride on Thursday to work with and love on her handsome fella! He got trace-clipped, and his mom and I split his riding training session. Kai has his steering down solid at a walk, but when we introduce other gaits, he tends to anticipate commands and get wobbly. This isn't unexpected or uncommon, as many young horses have to learn to carry themselves with a higher center of gravity due to carrying a rider. We also worked on teaching vertical flexion from the bit to form the beginning stages of 2-rein stops and collection!

We also worked on loading into the trailer! Kai was initially hesitant and needed us to build him a platform to step onto before stepping into the trailer because it was too high for him. He got a little sticky on the trailer and didn't want to come off. After practicing and letting him think about it a few times, he was loading like a pro. All in all, he is doing fantastically, as usual!

A little dirt never hurt anybody!
