The Mustang Diaries: Buck's Recovery

After last Monday's injury, Buck has been on stall rest, twice a day foot soaks, bandaged foot, and loads of pain reliever. He's a bit of a menace, stuck in a 12 x 12 box all day/night, and has been plotting his escape and chewing on everything he can. I've decided to use his time on rest to get him to gain as much weight as possible, so he's thoroughly enjoying round-the-clock hay and twice per day grain, though it's laced with a painkiller.

Today is his first day completely off the meds, and we just got the all clear from the vet to release him into a small paddock. However, he still requires foot soaks and wraps with nothing but days of rain in the forecast. We are hoping that, being off the meds, he won't slide back into being lame, and we will have to keep a watchful eye on him. Good thing I can see right into his paddock from my office window!
