Mustangs Gone (un)Wild

Description
Atlas is a very handsome, uniquely colored, DRAFTY gelding that recently came to our facility (April 11, 2025). Since he arrived, he has been almost completely fearless and so easy to work with. He was haltered on day 3 and almost full-body brushed by day 4, out of holding. He is a smart and willing guy whose training is progressing very quickly. He meets you at the gate to be caught, and he loves a good scratch!
He is fully W/T/C under saddle and definitely has more WOAH than GO. He has a fantastic lope which is typically his top speed. He has been extensively trailered away from home for clinics, obstacle courses, activities, trail rides, etc.
Atlas LOVES attention. This year he helped us represent the US Wild Horse and Burro Association at Equine Affaire and he was absolutely basking as a celebrity in the limelight! He handled the utter chaos and stress of the 4-day event without batting an eyelash. Everything from zooming golf carts, dogs, kids, PLASTIC BAGS, yelling, other horses, breed demos, stalling and more!
His heart really lies on the trails or in fun activities. Set it and forget it with Atlas. That being said, he will do ranch-style flatwork if asked and is learning leg cues for hips and shoulders. I have thrown ropes off him and enjoy getting creative with desensitizing. But really his TOP speed is a lope… running hard and bolting are WAY too much work for him to care to do. Slow and steady wins the race and Atlas embodies that to his core.
This doesn't mean he’s lazy, he will definitely move out of asked, however, if given the choice to be sedentary - that's more his style.
He’ll tie to a pebble or a twig, and is generally great about his ground tying. Walking away is still more effort than its worth for him.
He is UTD on everything. I'm also the farrier for him and he gets regular barefoot trims, he also had his teeth floated last month.
He would make an excellent trail partner, lesson horse, or (non-timed) activities partner. He is eligible for adoption, and his training will continue to progress unless a home is otherwise located.
Check out this video of what Atlas knows on groundwork and under saddle.
