Mustangs Gone (un)Wild

Crisco & Joe
Its never to late to find a new passion. At nearly 70-years-old, Joe is taking his first steps into the horse world with his very own wild mustang, Crisco!
The story of Joe and Crisco is a brick in the layer of supporting evidence to the power of unexpected connections. It's a story about him finding a new passion at nearly 70-years old, about a wild Mustang learning to trust, and about the transformative power of patience, kindness, and the shared language of the heart.
We originally acquired Crisco to train her and offer her to the public, but one of our own, Joe's dad, Joe Sr. struck us all by surprise when him and Crisco decided they had something else in mind.
While we often believe we choose our horses, a deeper look suggests that, in many ways, they choose us. The process is subtle, relying on nuanced communication and a silent understanding that transcends words, revealing how horses pick their people through observation, empathy, and an instinctive search for safety and belonging. And thats exactly what she did, Crisco chose Joe.
Their journey is slow as they both learn about this newfound version of life. Joe showers her with hours of gentle hands and deep treat buckets while Crisco learns to trust the human voice and touch. They are drawing their own map and moving at their own pace. Joe has discovered that even at 70, life could offer a wild ride, a thrilling adventure, and a profound connection with a creature as untamed and beautiful as the American West itself.
